James’ Place is situated in the heart of Liverpool city centre offering support for men experiencing extreme depression and suicidal crisis.
In contrast to mainstream hospital services this attractive Georgian property provides a safe-haven from the outside world. The building maintains its unique Georgian character with a blend of comfortable contemporary fixtures and fittings and thoughtful functionality. Each therapy suite has kitchen facilities, a comfortable sitting area and toilet facilities. In addition, there is beautifully designed landscaped garden area.
Jane Centre Manager explained that the environment acts as the second therapist:
“We want James’ Place to be somewhere that people look forward to visiting and look back on with a renewed sense of hope”
The centre manager approached the Anti-Ligature shop to discuss whether the centre should have ligature knives and staff training in their use for the staff working at the centre and look back on with a renewed sense of hope”.
In discussion with our safety consultant it was agreed that it was unlikely that clients would attempt to hurt themselves whilst attending the centre. All client interventions are by appointment and clients are rarely on their own except when using the toilet.
Ligature cutters were supplied for each floor of the building as a precautionary measure. In addition, training has been provided to all staff in its use.
