About Point 5 Plus: Point 5 Plus is an independent service and consultancy focused on ligature-resistant solutions for mental health environments. Based in Lancashire, the team supports projects locally and nationally, combining hands-on sector expertise with evidence-led design to advance safety and innovation across care settings.

1. Tell us about the products you create exclusively for us – what makes them unique?

I specialise in creating safety-first, ligature-resistant products for mental health environments. The range includes secure shrouds, tamper-resistant fixtures, and innovative fittings that support therapeutic care while mitigating risk. What makes these products unique is my evidence-led design process informed by collaboration with clinicians, mental health professionals, estates teams and service users. Every product is tailored to perform in high-risk environments while preserving a therapeutic, non-institutional feel.

2. What motivated you to create products within this industry?

My motivation stems from a deep commitment to improving the safety and experience of vulnerable individuals within mental health services. I recognised a need for purpose-designed products that go beyond basic compliance, supporting both staff and service users through thoughtful, risk-reducing solutions.

3. What inspired the design or development of these products?

My design process is inspired by real-world challenges in mental health settings — whether that’s minimising ligature risks, improving durability, or supporting a calm, non-institutional aesthetic. I work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure every product serves a clear therapeutic and safety purpose.

4. How do you use innovation or technology in your manufacturing process?

Innovation is central to my approach. I use advanced materials and engineered solutions to develop products that are robust, safe and easy to maintain. I continuously research new technologies to enhance safety features while supporting healing environments.

5. What is the key benefit or USP of your products for the end user?

My unique selling point is my unwavering focus on safety in mental health environments. For service users, this means being in spaces that are both secure and respectful. For staff, my products reduce risk and enable better care delivery — combining safety, functionality and dignity.

6. How do you ensure consistent quality and reliability?

I follow rigorous quality-control processes at every stage — from design to manufacturing and post-installation support. All products are tested thoroughly and regularly reviewed based on in-use feedback, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding environments.

7. What recent developments or improvements have you introduced?

Recently, I’ve introduced a new locking system, improved ligature-resistant designs, and more sustainable material options. These developments respond directly to evolving safety needs and feedback from care providers, keeping the range at the forefront of the sector.

8. How do you see your products evolving to meet future needs in our sector?

As mental health care evolves, I see my products incorporating more smart technologies, sustainable materials, and customisable options to suit different care models. I’m committed to staying agile and innovative, ensuring my offerings grow alongside the sector’s needs.
