What is a continuous Secura hinge and what is it used for?
Answer: Continuous hinges are good for anti-ligature doors because they can help prevent patients from harming themselves by attaching a ligature to the hinge. They are made to match the full height of the door. They can carry heavier doors and last a lot longer than standard mortise or butt hinges. Due to the hinge running the full height of the door, its weight is distributed along the full height of the frame, reducing stress on the hinge.
Intastop’s full-length continuous SECURA Hinge can be used on new or existing doors and is applied to conceal both leaves. Unlike conventional hinges, the SECURAHinge does not have a pin.
The Secura Hinge consists of two full-height, paired and geared leaves. Each geared leaf rotates evenly from top to bottom riding on Delrin-Teflon bearings.
These softened bearings greatly reduce the ligature between the bearing and hinge leaves which minimises potential self-harm in the open state (i.e when rubbing wrist against hinge).
The SECURAHinge features an Anti-Ligature tip (registered design 4035485) which greatly minimises the potential gap in open and closed positions and ensures no gap behind the bearing. The design features of the tip improve safety, making it ideal for use in a wide variety of situations in healthcare, psychiatric and secure accommodation environments where self-harm is a risk. The secure fixed tip has been tested to DHF TS001:2013 B4 (0.5mm wire).

A Concealed Closer Solution
Combining the safety and efficiency of the SECURAHinge with the power of a Perko Powermatic® Closer can be positioned as low as 300mm from the base of the door. The closer is Fire Tested to BS EN 1634 for 30 and 60 minutes. Opening forces comply with Approved Document M.
